Within this study, we established a cerium oxide nanoparticle scaffold (Scaffold-CeO2) and examined the rate of nerve regeneration in a rat model of spinal cord injury. The aim of this study was to analyze different urological management plans for antithrombotic drugs before ureteroscopic lithotripsy and flexible ureteroscopy in patients with stones actively receiving anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapies.
Urologists in China (613) received a survey on the perioperative management of anticoagulants (AC) and antiplatelet (AP) drugs during ureteroscopic lithotripsy (URL) and flexible ureteroscopy (fURS), encompassing personal work details and perspectives.
A survey of urologists revealed that 205% believed that the continued use of AP drugs was acceptable, while 147% felt likewise about AC drugs. Among urologists who performed over 100 ureteroscopic lithotripsy or flexible ureteroscopy procedures yearly, 261% felt AP drugs could be continued, and 191% felt AC drugs could be continued, a significantly higher proportion (P<0.001) than urologists performing fewer than 100 procedures (136% for AP and 92% for AC). Urologists managing over 20 active AC or AP therapy cases annually exhibited a significantly higher propensity (259%) to advocate for the continued use of AP drugs, compared to those with fewer than 20 cases (171%, P=0.0008). Investigating the rate of return to competitive soccer and the subsequent performance in a large group of competitive soccer players who underwent hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), and identifying possible factors that hinder a return to soccer.
An analysis of a retrospective database of an institutional hip preservation registry focused on competitive soccer players who underwent primary hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement surgery between 2010 and 2017. Detailed documentation was made of patient demographics, injury characteristics, and associated clinical and radiographic data. All patients were contacted to gather information on their return to soccer, utilizing a specialized questionnaire designed for soccer. Through the application of multivariable logistic regression, a study aimed to determine potential risk factors preventing players from returning to soccer.
Among the participants were eighty-seven competitive soccer players, whose collective hip count reached 119. 32 players, comprising 37% of the player group, had either simultaneous or staged bilateral hip arthroscopy. The average age of those who received surgery was 21,670 years. From the initial group, a substantial 65 players (747% return rate) rejoined soccer, and of these, 43 (49% of the group) returned to or improved upon their pre-injury performance. The leading reasons for abandoning soccer participation were pain or discomfort (representing 50% of the cases) and the fear of re-injury, which accounted for 31.8%. Soccer resumption typically took 331,263 weeks on average. 14 of the 22 soccer players who did not return to playing reported satisfaction with their surgeries (a rate of 636% satisfaction). A significant source of patient dissatisfaction after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the development of arthrofibrosis. Despite the inclusion of early physical therapy and manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) in treatment plans, some patients ultimately require a revision of their total knee arthroplasty (TKA). It is questionable whether revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can reliably improve the range of motion (ROM) of these patients. The purpose of this study was to quantify the range of motion (ROM) post-revision TKA when dealing with arthrofibrosis.
A retrospective study was conducted to examine the outcomes of 42 total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients diagnosed with arthrofibrosis at a single institution between 2013 and 2019. Each patient had a minimum two-year follow-up. Pre- and post-operative range of motion (flexion, extension, and total arc) was the principal outcome measured in revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The patient's average flexion, pre-revision, was quantified at 856 degrees, and their average extension at 101 degrees. At the time of the revision, characteristics of the cohort included a mean age of 647 years, an average BMI of 298, and 62% of the individuals were female. In a study with a 45-year mean follow-up, revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) resulted in notable improvements in terminal flexion (184 degrees, p<0.0001), terminal extension (68 degrees, p=0.0007), and overall range of motion (252 degrees, p<0.0001). Importantly, the final range of motion after revision TKA was not significantly different from the patient's pre-primary TKA ROM (p=0.759). The PROMIS scores for physical function, depression, and pain interference were 39 (SD=7.72), 49 (SD=8.39), and 62 (SD=7.25), respectively.
A significant improvement in range of motion (ROM) was observed following revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for arthrofibrosis, averaging 45 years post-procedure, with more than 25 degrees of enhancement in the total arc of motion. This resulted in a final ROM comparable to that prior to the initial TKA.
